Medical facilities
The Health, Culture and Sports Directorate was established to meet the nutritional, accommodation, health, sport, cultural and other social needs of the students. In this scope, the Mediko Social Centre of the Health, Culture and Sports Directorate offers health examinations, outpatient care and psychological and counseling services.
The University has a total of 32 polyclinics, one emergency service and one laboratory located on the Göztepe, Haydarpaşa, Bağlarbaşı, Acıbadem, Nişantaşı, Bahçelievler and Anadolu Hisarı campuses. The Mediko Social Centre is located on the Göztepe Campus. There are 12 doctors, 3 dentists, 2 psychologists, 1 pharmacist, 11 nurses and 1 technician working in this centre.
In Mediko the priority is to provide preventive medicine, and carry out outpatient diagnoses and treatment. If necessary, patients are referred to Marmara University Hospital or the Dental Faculty.
Another important health centre at the university is Marmara University Hospital. Marmara University Hospital was established in 1986. In addition to examination, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation services, the hospital provides opportunities for medical students to carry out research and to put their knowledge into practice. Marmara University Hospital has 2 emergency wards, 3 intensive care units, a haemodialysis centre, bone marrow transplant centre and an outpatients treatment centre; the hospital has a capacity of 386 beds and treats 200,000 patients a year.
