History
Marmara University Haydarpasa Vocational School of Health Related Professions was closed in 1997-1998 academic year. Department of Anesthesia was alienated to Marmara University Vocational School of Health Related Professions in 1997-1998 academic year. It was an important step for quality improvement of Anesthesia technicians' training.

Anesthesia is known as an important field of surgical sciences. Graduates from Anesthesia must have competencies for helping to anesthesists, preparing the environment, using anesthesia equipment, working in operating room, reanimation department, emergency department, following innovations of medical practices in anesthesia.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates from Department of Anesthesia can work in operating room, emergency department, reanimation department, pain rooms of state, university and private hospitals. Graduates also can work in operating room, emergency department of private medical centers.
Access to Further Studies
Graduates from Anesthesia may apply to undergraduate programs that announced by OSYM with vertical transition exam. Graduate students may complete parts department with a vertical transition exam : Emergency and Disaster Management , Nursing , Nursing and Health Services.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
There are mid-term and final exams for students who attend lectures regularly in a mid-term during the academic year. A student’s academic performance is determined at the end of each semester by computing 40% of the average of mid-term exams and 60% of the final exam. A student must attend 70% of lectures at least. Norm referenced criteria is used in assesment and evaluation.
Graduation Requirements
This degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00/4.00. Anesthesia students must have obtained 89 credits and 120 ECTS during 4 semesters for graduation. For passing from second mid term to the third midterm that Anesthesia students must have Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00/4.00 in order to select second year courses.

Facilities
Classroom I, Classroom 2 and Classroom 3 that located in administrative floor of vocational school of health services are used for theoretical courses and practices. There are one instructor, one research assistant and two health technicians in Department of Anesthesia. There is also second education programme in department of Anesthesia.
Key Learning Outcomes ^
1 To possess an understanding of continuous professional development within the context of professional and global values.
2 To identify pre-operative and post-operative anaesthetic needs according to the type of disease/patient and to create an anaesthesia plan to be implemented with the anaesthetist.
3 To prepare and apply the drugs, fluids, blood, blood products according to patient and disease characteristics.
4 To administer all anaesthesia appropriately in accordance with their techniques.
5 To adopt national and global values in order to improve oneself intellectually and socially.
6 To possess the basic knowledge of the profession.
7 To prepare the anaesthesia machine and other ancillary equipment to ensure the patient’s airway control.
8 To ensure monitoring and to keep records of vital signs of the patient.
9 To decide quickly, rapidly and correctly in emergency situations.
10 In situations where the administration of first aid is required to carry out the necessary procedures.
11 To communicate (orally and written) with patients, relatives and other health care professionals.
12 To keep all required patient records.
13 To make correct decisions in a quick and calm manner in emergency situations.
14 To have knowledge about quality standards and quality improvement.
