General Description ^
History
According to the decision dated to 06.11.1987 of Executive Committee of Higher Education "Tourism management" program was established under the department of "Economics and Administrative Programs" and the first students were accepted in the academic year of 1988 - 1989. Accordingly in 08.09.1994 "The Travel Agency" program has been established and in the 1994 -1995 academic year the students were accepted. In 2011, according to the new regulation of the Council of Higher Education departments in the vocational school has been established. Accordingly, "Tourism and Travel Services" program is under "The Tourism, Travel and Leisure" department.

Specific Admission Requirements
Students who wants to register to this program may take YGS exam. In addition during the placement of the students from Vocational Highschools, their grade point avarage are also taken into account. After an successful first year students have the right to make transfer to the other universities. Completing this program students may take an DGS exam for an four year undergraduate program.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
Students registered to this program attnd a one year English preparatory school. However, passing the exemption exam they can start directly the first year. In the same way students coming by transfer are exempted from the courses taken before if they are equally credited.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
After 1 year preparatory school + completion of 2 years courses and total credits and 60 work days practice, students can graduate.
Profile of The Programme
The aim of the programme is to give the basic knowledge about tourism and travel agencies to the students, after a one year preparatory school in English.The aim of the programme is, after a one year English preparatory school, to give the required professional information, thus to equip the students with all the the basic information related with the tourism sector and send them with all these information after their education to the professional life. During the education it has been given a special importance to the foreign languages. Students having one year English education in the preparatory school, are taking 4 hours a week English and additionally a second foreign language German/French during the 2 years education. Students are taking many other courses which they will require during their professional life (Tour Operators and Travel Agencies, Ticketing, Computerised Ticketing and Reservation, Marketing in Travel Agencies, etc.) from experienced and expert teachers. Students who have completed first class, combine their theoretical knowledge with practice by performing their compulsory 60 work days summer practice.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Students graduated from this program have the employment opportunity at the A, B and C category travel agencies. Our graduates starting from lower levels get higher managerial positions during their professional life. Some of them established their own travel agency.
Access to Further Studies
After finishing 3 years of education including 1 year English preparatory school, according to the result of the DGS exam further study is possible for the graduate students. They are exempted from the courses which are suitable according to the contents and credits.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
In order to pass a course the students of the Tourism and Travel Services Program are required to take two exams for each of every courses one midterm exam and one final exam, totaly two exams for each course exist. 40% of the midterm exam, 60% of the final exam are calculated. The sum of two exams must be over 50 at least, otherwise the course must be repeated. In the same way the final exam grade must be also over 50 in any case.
Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from the Tourism and Travel Services program the students must fullfill the requirements below completely, otherwise they have to repeat the class or some of the courses with lower grades: Completing all of the courses successfully with an overall average of 2.00 , Completion of the preparatory school, Completion of 60 work days practice at A or B Catagory travel agencies in Istanbul, To complete 120 ECTS

Facilities
The department has six faculty members, two of them are Assistant Professors. Other academicians of our school and expert teachers from the sector also contribute to the education. Courses are done in 2 large classrooms and 7 classrooms and 1 computer laboratory. Students are taking courses about actual ticketing computer programmes and they have the opportunity of taking an intenationally valuable ticketing certificate with the colloboration of THY Education Department. Employment opportunities for the graduate students at the travel agencies can be arranged.

3 The knowledge of history and geography of Turkey and the ability of explaining these to the tourists.
4 The knowledge of tourism and environment relationship and related environmental protection applications.
5 The knowledge of good manner and ethic values, the ability of behaving accordingly.
6 The knowledge of legal rules of tourism and travel agencies.
7 The knowledge of preparing new package tour programmes.
8 The knowledge of preparing manually and computerized airline tickets.
9 The knowledge of all operations in the travel agencies.
10 The knowledge of planning and suplying all kinds of services to the tourism consumers supplied by the travel agencies.
11 The ability of operation of every kind of travel management.
12 The ability of professional speaking in Turkish and at least two foreign languages.
13 The knowledge of the establishment of the republic and Atatürk's principles and revolutions.
