General Description ^
History
Local Government program which was opened at the Vocational School of Social Sciences with the decision of the Higher Education Council dated November 10, 1994 offers educational activities since 1995-1996 academic year. The program operates under the Department of Administration and Organization since 2010-2011 academic year.
Qualification Awarded
A student who completes 120 ETCS credit program and apprenticeship study , is entitled to take the Local Government Associate Degree (pre-bachelor).
Specific Admission Requirements
Students are matriculated according to the results of the Central University Entrance Examination (ÖSYS). Score type YGS-4 (Internal Transfer Exam -4).
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
In pursuant to the general principles determined by the Higher Education Council and the Marmara University Undergraduate Program Education-Instruction and Examination Regulations, students from Marmara University or other universities can transfer to the program. Qualification Requirements and Regulations
The medium of instruction is in Turkish. Professional English is a compulsory course. Student must complete 74 credit hours (120 ETCS) and is required to have Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 2.00/4.00.
Profile of The Programme
The purpose of the program is to offer a comparative education on the organization of local governments, their personel and operations. Within the scope of the curriculum, students are given both theoretical and applied courses such as local governments, local politics, urbanization, urban planning, environmental issues, bureau administration, public relations, accounting and public finance. Besides, in order students to have experience in local government processes they are provided apprenticeship program in collaboration with the municipalities.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Students who graduated from the Program are employed at the departments of personel, public relations, human resources, research and development, strategic planning and clerk’s office and as officer at private sector.
Access to Further Studies
Students who graduated from the Program may apply for BA degree programs such as public administration or similar at any university by obtaining the required score in the External Transfer Exam (DGS). They are placed to the relevant programs by the Student Selection and Placement Center.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Graduation Requirements
A student who completes the required courses, practices and apprenticeship as required by the Program in accordance with the provisions of the Regulation and has at least 2.00/4.00 CGPA is entitled to receive an asssociate graduate diploma.

Facilities
There are seven full-time faculty members at the program. The school has one lecture ahll and sufficient classrooms equipped with audio-visual materials; one computer room, cafeteria and library. Students are offered compulsory English, Professional English and Fine Arts courses.
