General Description ^
History
Even though, the history of educational and instructional technology goes back to the early 20th century, the department of Computer and Instructional Technology in Marmara University was founded in 1998. Previously, Prof. Dr. Hikmet SAVCI (1998 - 1999) and Prof. Dr. Esat HAMZAOĞLU (1999 - 2000) served as a head of department.
Qualification Awarded
Students who successfully accomplished all the requirements of the department will be awarded with a university diploma.
Specific Admission Requirements
There is no other specific admission requirements for the department other than issued by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) of Turkey.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
For Non-Formal and Informal Education: Only second language learning (e.g. English, French etc) is recognized. There is an exam which can be signed during registration week, and students who has passed this exam will be exempted from taking Foreign Language courses. For Formal Education: Previous courses taken from other higher education instituions will be assessed in accordance with related Marmara University Legislation.

Profile of The Programme
The programme is a four year programme with eight semesters. The courses offered in the programmes are from general areas, professional areas and culture based. The programme language is Turkish. Department has one professor, two associate professors, one assistant professor, a lecturer, and three research assistants. Also, there is a research assistant who are from another department but assigned to teach in our programme. In addition, three part-time lecturers teaches in the department.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Students graduated from out programme generally work as computer teachers in public and private schools. Additionally, some students works as instructional designer, information-technology specialist, testing and evaluation expert, the software-design and development experts, web designer, programmers, network managers, multimedia and graphics designers.
Access to Further Studies
The graduates from this department may study masters and doctorate in Computer and Instructional Technology departments in various educational instutions. Legislations issued by Higher Education Council (YÖK) of Turkey and the University applied is the bases for accessing and applying to further studies. However, briefly procedures given below are generally followed: For masters study: Bachelor's degree, ALES, Science Exam and Interview PhD Study: Master degree, ALES, UDS, Science Exam and Interview
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Assessment, measurement and evaluation is carried out by the Marmara University Examination Regulations. Further information can be reached from http://www.marmara.edu.tr/dosya/mevzuat/yeni/mu_yonetmelik_onlisans_lisans_v36.pdf Midterm is counted for 40% for passing grade, and final exam is counted for 60% of the passing grade. Current students' achievement scores for the course is calculated using relative assessment.
Graduation Requirements
For a student to graduate with a bachelor's degree and receive a diploma, the student should attend all the courses offered in the department and expected to be successfully accomplish all of them. Students overall weighted grade average (GPA) must be at least 2 out of 4. For detailed information on this subject, please refer to the relevant legislation delivered by Marmara University.

Facilities
There are two classrooms serving for the department. One of them has a projector, but not the other one. However, a blackboard is in there. There is also a seminar room (with 15 person capacity) in the department. There are currently 4 computer labs. Two of them are used by courses offered in our programme, and other two are used as service labs for other programmes to teach in. 3 out of 4 computer labs have projectors. The capacity of the labs are between 19 and 29.

3 Students will be able to determine the factors effecting learning process , based on these, they will be able to review and reorganize learning environments and materials.
4 Students will be able to follow students’ improvements in learning environments by creating and implementing student assessment tools.
5 Students will be able to evaluate the results of student assessment tools and remedy instruction accordingly.
6 In order to self-improve teaching skills, the students will be able to implement appropriate information technology to reach new information.
7 Students will be able to act ethically in electronic and non-electronic educational environments, pass these values to next generations.
8 Students will be able to demonstrate theoric and pratic knowledge in the areas of Computer Education and Instructional Technology.
9 Students will be able to articulate appropriate terms and theories in the field of information technology.
10 Students will be able to select and implement appropriate technology in educational environments.
11 Students will be proficient in information technology for both in and outside classrooms.
12 Students will be able to design and develop technology supported learning materials based on learners’ needs.
