History
The "Department of English Language Teaching" was founded in 1982 as part of the "Foreign Languages Teaching Department" at Atatürk Faculty of Education. The department is supported by academic staff, and the trainee teachers are accepted through ÖSYS.

English teaching at primary and secondary schools as well as preparatory classes of universities
Specific Admission Requirements
Students who participate in YGS, LYS or MÜYÖS and succeed can register at the university. Afterwards, a placement test is administered. According to the exam results, the students with insufficient language proficiency attend the English language preparatory school. Those who are successful begin their first semester at the Department of English Language Teaching.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
Formal education according to the legislation of Higher Education. In the case of horizontal or vertical transfers, students may be exempt from the same or similar courses that they previously took from other higher education institutions, by resolution of an exemption committee/departmental board decision. Course matchings of students who have continued their education abroad for one or two semesters within the scope of Erasmus, are also conducted through the departmental board decision.

Profile of The Programme
The program is modular and composed of Field Information, Pedagogy, Didactic about the field, Methodology and General Culture modules. Course language of the program is English. The duration of education in the department is four years. The curriculum of the English Language Teaching Department is designed to help students acquire theoretical and practical knowledge relevant to foreign language teaching and to gain critical thinking skills during the four-year undergraduate programme. Along with the undergraduate programme, a Masters program is also available. Students whose GPA is above 80 can also apply for the minor and double major programs in related fields.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
The graduates of English Language Teaching Department can work as an English teacher in all primary and secondary schools in which English is taught as first or second language. They can work in several fields or the private sector which has commercial cooperation with UK or USA. They can work in various areas of tourism as well as in media and communication orientated institutions.
Access to Further Studies
Apart from the undergraduate programme, related Master's and Doctoral programmes have been organised and directed by the Institute of Educational Sciences. Transition to the graduate programme: Undergraduate academic degree, ALES, Science Exam and interview. Transition to the Ph.D programme: Master's degree, ALES, ÜDS, Science Exam and interview.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Each semester a midterm and a final examination is given for each course. Make-up exams are held for students who cannot take the regular exams, based on the submisson of a doctor’s report and by a board decision. In order to pass, students must receive at least 40 points on the final exam. The grades are calculated by taking 40% of the midterm exam and 60% of the final exam. At the end of the second academic year, the grade point average of the four semesters must be at least 2.00. The rating system is based on relative evaluation.
Graduation Requirements
The successful completion of the eight-term long program requires to pass all the courses, including the theoretical and practical ones as well as the practicum with a grade point average of 2.00 or above out of 4.00 (GPA).

Facilities
The department embodies about 700 pre-service teachers and 10 full-time and 2 part-time teaching staff. The teaching staff consists of 1 Associate Professor, 4 Assistant Professors, 3 instructors with Doctoral degrees, 2 instructors and 2 part-time instructors. The physical basis is made up of 1 Department Head Office, 5 instructor offices, 7 classrooms with projectors, 1 Computer lab and 1 Graduate Seminar room. Our students can attend several universities abroad at the undergraduate level due to agreements that our university signed in relation to ERASMUS. Within the framework of the Erasmus program there are student and staff exchange agreements.

8 To equip student teachers with the concepts and methods of foreign language teaching and with the practical skills to apply their knowledge to various contexts, such as written texts and discourses
9 To equip student teachers with the basic skills to investigate the native language and the foreign language in terms of grammatical and linguistic structures; moreover, the students will be able to utilise the similarities and differences in foreign language teaching
10 To equip student teachers with the basic skills to acquire the concepts and methods related to Foreign Language Teaching and to apply them to a number of texts
11 To equip student teachers with the necessary skills to prepare appropriate learning environments for their prospective students by taking into consideration their individual learning differences; students will also learn how to manage classes effectively
12 To equip student teachers with necessary skills to be able to follow educational technologies, to be able to use them in the classroom and to adapt them to teaching
13 To equip student teachers with the information regarding national and international education systems so that they can compare relevant educational systems
