History
Parallel to the 1998 reform movement "Restructuring the Faculties of Education" coordinated by the Higher Education Council, Chemistry Education Program was established in 1998 within the Faculty of Education. Program is nested within Department of Secondary Science and Mathematics Education.
Qualification Awarded
Upon the successful completion of the program, students are awarded with teaching certificate in chemistry education
Specific Admission Requirements
To have a secondary education diploma and to get required test score in Math science 2 test in the University Entrance Examination.

Profile of The Programme
The Marmara University Chemistry Education Program has a long history of training high school chemistry teachers. The program aims to prepare chemistry teachers who have strong undergraduate science and pedagogical background and reflective practice and critical thinking abilities. Language of instruction is Turkish.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
The graduates of this program can work as a chemistry teacher in state or private schools. Furthermore, they can work as chemists in factories or various laboratories. They are also eligible for admission to M.A. or Ph.D. programs in chemistry, chemistry education, or science education.
Access to Further Studies
Graduate programme leading to M.A. and Ph.D. degrees is offered in accordance with the regulations of the Institute of Educational Sciences as well as other science departments including chemistry, polymer chemistry and chemical engineering. . In order to be accepted candidates should meet the criteria identified by related graduate school.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
When calculating grades, %40 of the grade taken in midterm exam and %60 of the grade taken in final exams are used and 65 is the minimum grade to pass a course, Weighted Evaluation System is used. Each course has its on exam and assesment regulations. These are described in related courses syllabus. In some courses exams are in multiple choice format, while in some others open ended.
Graduation Requirements
In order to succesfully graduate from chemistry education program students must be succesfull at all the required and elective courses taken during the program and complete the required internship program. (GANO - Overall Academic Grade Mean Value should be 2.0 and above over 4.00)

Facilities
There are 3 laboratories for general chemistry laboratory, special methods in teaching chemistry lessons, 1 classroom for forty students and 1 seminar room for master and doctoral students avaible in our Department. Besides, prospective teachers have the opportunity to practice in elegant high schools in İstanbul.
