General Description ^
History
Mathematics Education Departmant established at Marmara Education Faculty in 1982.. Until 1998, the division of mathematics education ran a four-year undergraduate program with the aim of preparing mathematics teachers for both primary and secondary schools. After 1998, with the reconstructing education faculties project, it ran a five-year undergraduate program for only secondary school. Mathematical content courses in the program are taught by the members of Science and Literature Faculty and pedagogical content courses are taught by the members of Faculty of Education. There are 3 associate professors, 1 assistant professor ve 2 research asistant in the deparment.

Profile of The Programme
Our graduates will be competent teachers who have strong knowledge bases both in mathematics and its pedagogy. They will be self-confident practitioners with critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Our students can find jobs in state as well as private schools within the country and worldwide. They could also choose to develop their expertise by applying to postgraduate programs mainly in the areas of mathematics education and some cases in pure and applied mathematics and rarely in other mathematics-related disciplines.
Access to Further Studies
Postgraduate Programs in Mathematics Education (MSc and PhD) are designed for developing the skills of the graduates in doing research in mathematics education. The requirement for application to these programs are a BSc diploma in mathematics or in mathematics education, an adequate score (50/100 or above from the numerical test) from the ALES examination (results from GRE is also acceptable) and satisfactory level of English proven by a KPDS, UDS or TOEFL. An adequate teaching experience is an extra advantage.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Graduation Requirements
The students who have achieved all the requirements like course, application, and training of the education program that is registered, according to this Regulation and have GAP (Grade Point Average) 2.00 or higher, qualified for their diploma.

Facilities
Our depatments' classroom with projector and smart board can accommodate up to 50 students. There is also an amphitheater which can accommodate up to 100 students. Besides must coursesi there are wide range of general culture elective courses: Visual Arts, Music Culture, Istanbul Culture.

1 Students will acquire, apply and communicate a broad knowledge of mathematical concepts throughout their coursework.
2 Students will be able to demonstrate an appreciation of science as an integral part of society and everyday life.
3 Students will be able to demonstrate an appreciation of a broad range of fundamental mathematical concepts.
4 Students will be able to organize and critically evaluate information that involves mathematics and they will be able to present it clearly in written and oral form.
5 Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to effectively use information and communication technologies and implement them in teaching / learning environments.
6 Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to select the most effective teaching method, strategies and approaches while taking into consideration the students’ level of cognitive development, individual needs and the aspects of the topic and attainment targets.
7 Students will be abel to demonstrate fundamental abilities to plan for instruction (short and long term).
8 Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to create learning environments which promotes students’ interest and motivation to learn mathematics and in which students can express themselves freely.
9 Demonstrate the problem solving, analytical and communication skills that provide the foundation for lifelong learning and career development.

11 Maintain professional and ethical standards in scientific investigations in mathematics and mathematics education.
