History
Educational Saciences Department in Marmara University Atatürk Faculty of Education was founded by 41th decrees about Organization of Higher Education Institutions law which was entered into force on 20th July, 1982. The Department of Educational Sciences conducts an undergraduate program leading to a B.A. degree in Guidance and Psychological Counseling and offers professional courses to students in the teacher education programs administered by the other departments of the Faculty. Department seeks to examine and to provide solutions educational problems at the local and the global scale. By this way, the department aims to contribute to the development of educational sciences. The Department carries out research and contributes to the dissemination of knowledge in the field. As an essence of educating teacher candidates,the responsibility of providing core educational courses is hold by Educational Sciences Department. The department includes one undergraduate program, namely, Psychological Counseling&Guidance, which was opened in 1999.

Specific Admission Requirements
Our department, receive students with the university placement examination which is conducted by OSYM. Our department had a quota of 88 students who were accepted with YGS-3 point type, in 2011-2012 education year, have been continuing education activities.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
Earned degree in Secondary Education level. The students who apply for passing this program must complete two terms without failing any courses and having 3.00 GPA over 4.00 GPA.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To be qualified with the degree of Bachelor of Arts, all students are demanded to complete the all the courses. For furrther information, please contact with the department.
Profile of The Programme
The Guidance and Psychological Counseling Program was established in order to offer both courses in the subtopics of educational sciences to the whole departments of Ataturk Education Faculty and in order to offer a four-year undergraduate program. The department trains teachers and psychological counselors according to the teacher development standards of developing countries and designs courses and conduct research in order to improve academic achievement and psychology of primary, secondary and higher education students and in order to reach perfection in education. The program also tries to provide counseling service to students and their families with the aim of increasing academic achievement and improving their psychology.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
The graduated students generally placed in both governmental and private schools giving education at primary and secondary levels. Additionally, the graduates continue to their professional life in private tutoring institutions, Centers for Guidance and Research Centers, National Ministry of Law and Police Departments by providing psychological counseling to the relevant parties.
Access to Further Studies
Attending to all the courses are hold compulsory. Students who are failed to participate %30 of the total classes for any course are considered as unsuccesfull for the unattended course. The final grades are calculated with the weighted effects of one midterm (%40) and final exam (%60). Norm-referenced grading is used for grading in the department.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
At least one midterm and final exams for credit courses and seminar courses of program are conducted. The contrubution of midterm exams to the success is %40 and final exams %60. Registered students of the program must attend to all courses.
Graduation Requirements
The student will be awarded with Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychological Counseling&Guidance if they successfully completed all the theoretical and application-based courses by the legally defined time interval which is determined by Institute of Higher Education. Currently, there is no time interval to finish the program.

Facilities
For the use of Guidance and Psychological Counseling program, one classroom for 108 students, one classroom for 88 students and a seminar room is at service. Both classrooms have projection system. 12 computer labs are in the service of faculty students for internet use. Also a library is in the service for faculty students. With the Erasmus program which our university enrolled in, student mobility is possible with abroad universities’ Guidance and Psychological Counseling program. Students can use the dormitories, refectories, social and sport facilities in the campus. All graduates are deployed at the first year of their graduation to public or private institutions

9 Students learn to counsel during career selection in a way that is suitable to the individual
10 Students learn to create programs and implement the same to direct individuals and groups to certain careers in keeping with their age level
11 Students learn to preprare and implement individual and group programs directed towards increasing learning activities
12 Students learn to prepare and implement psychological counselling and guidance programs that support a number of aims for family and older adults.
13 Students learn to use scientific thought and transform scientific philosophical information into practice
14 Students learn to develop equipment that is needed in psychological counselling and guidance
15 Students acquire knowledge on the matter of diagnosis criteria and the skill to distinguish theses in practice.
16 Students learn to carry out psychological counselling and guidance for those with special skills
17 Students learn to make and implement programs for children who display behavioural disorders
18 Students learn to prepare and implement career counselling programmes
19 Students learn to plan and implement group psychology sessions
