History
Having awarded its first bachelor’s degree in 1985, the Department of History Teaching offers a 5-year program on History Education for secondary education institutions. The first 7-semester part of the program focuses on the theoretical classes on history, as the last 3-semester part is spared for general educational and practical courses. The department has also been offering a Master’s Degree program (MA) since 1992 and a doctorate program (PhD) since 2009. Should they choose so, our graduates can start their academic careers through our graduate programs.

To take enough score from YGS (Exam of Passing High Education).
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
The students who take courses which are equivalent to the courses in the program in terms of title, content and credits from any other program are exempt from these courses.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
To take the cources such as school experience, teacherhood practice.
Profile of The Programme
The undergraduate program offers a 5-year education during which the student-teachers are aimed to be equipped with field-specific knowledge, general knowledge and pedagogical formation in theoretical and practical courses. The graduate program offers Masters (MA) and doctorate (PhD) degrees by the Institute of Educational Sciences.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
The graduates of the department are entitled to work as history educators at state or private secondary education institutions and at private study centres. They can also work at research centres, newspapers and journals/periodicals.
Access to Further Studies
Students who were graduated from Secondary Social Studies Education Department, History Education Program can apply to Master of Art programme on history and history education or an other social science fields. They can apply to universities to work as a research assistant in history education or an other social science education departments.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Assessment system of Social Science Education History Education Department construct of term of year learning activities (% 40) and end of term learning activities(%60). These activities can be quiz exam, midterm exam, homework project and final exam.
Graduation Requirements
The students who achive all lessons, prcatices and internship in the History Education Department curriculum and have three or more than three general academic average have to right of graduation from the department.

Facilities
The main campus of Atatürk Education Faculty is located in a central location on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, one of the most important metropolitan cities in the world. Thus, compared to the students of other universities of Turkey, our students have the great advantage of getting much easier access to all kinds of social, cultural, educational and sporting activities. These opportunities enhance our students’ cognitive, affective and psycho-motor development. The undergraduate students who fulfil the prerequisites are given the opportunity to participate in double-major program.

1 Graduates are able to discuss the details of the phases of world and Turkish history.
2 Graduates are able to identify and analyze the issues related to their field of educaiton with a contemporary prospective.
3 Graduates will be able to develop solutions to problems related to the field of history education.
4 Graduates will be able to teach history in a professional manner in educational institutions.
5 Graduates can use the knowledge they have gained in the field of history.
6 Graduates will be aware of the differentiation between the concepts of history and the study field in keeping with the era; they will also be able to interpret the meanining of history in keeping with the times.
7 Graduates can plan, implement and evaluate all forms of information related to history for educational purposes.
8 Graduates will be able to arrange, implement and evaluate study plans for introducing high-level cognitive skills to history students.
9 Graduates gain the ability to use computer programs for the application of teaching.
10 Graduates will have the skills and courage to put forward their own veiws concerning history as a result of critical thinking and questioning .
11 Graduates obtain a lifetime learning attitude and behavior.
12 Graduates gain a sense of responsibility and vocational ethics.
13 Graduates obtain an awareness of the basic values of Turkish society and citizenship, Ataturk’s principles and reforms and have the ability to transmit these to future generations.
