History
Department of Statistics was established in 2009. There are three faculty members appointed to the department. Department of Statistics has an Erasmus agreement and a double major / minor program action.
Qualification Awarded
Students successfully completing this program are entitled to the title of statistician.
Specific Admission Requirements
Placement through a centralised national university exam (ÖSYS). Transfer Procedure: Students who are registered in Chemistry Department of another university in Turkey are able to apply to our department based on their GPA and quota of our department. International students admission is possible based on the quota of the department and the score of ‘Marmara University Entrance Examination for Students Abroad’.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
Students who are eligible to enroll with the department, if they are successful foreign language proficiency exam, 1 and 2 half-years are exempt from foreign language courses they should take. Students who have previously enrolled in another university, if they apply for exemption for the courses they are succesfull, may be exempted by the decisions of the board of directors.

There is no special qualification condition.
Profile of The Programme
Department of Statistics offers a 4-year training program. Besides theoretical statistics, applied statistics courses are given in the program. In addition, computer courses are given for 4 years. The first two years compulsory courses are offered in the program. From the third year, emphasis is on technical and cultural elective courses.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Statistics graduates can be employed as a statistician. Statisticians can serve at; Turkey Statistics Institute (TUIK), State Planning Organization, the Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey, the Turkish Standards Institute, banks, hospitals, statistical offices, research and computer units of public institutions such as the police. In addition, they can serve at companies of the market research and public opinion. Statisticians can work as a lecturer in statistics and biostatistics departments at universities.
Access to Further Studies
Department of Statistics graduates can apply a variety of graduate programs. Institutes of Science and Technology Statistics, Industrial Engineering, as well as graduate programs, such as Numerical Methods in Social Sciences Institutes, Econometrics and so on.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
At the department MARMARA UNIVERSITY UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM EDUCATION-INSTRUCTION AND EXAMINATION REGULATIONS (Official Gazette: August 24th, 2008/26977) are applied. In statistical department there are a midterm and a final exam. A final grade is obtained summing 40% of Midterm and 60% of Final. After an evaluation of the relative success, the grades are converted to letter grades.
Graduation Requirements
This degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00/4.00. Students who have completed the first two years of their education may get a short cycle diploma. Applications for short cycle diploma do not have any deadline. Students who have succeeded in all the required courses but have a GPA of less than 2.00 are not allowed to graduate. However, these students may be given the chance of following the third and fourth year courses that they select and approve their scores and overall GPA. Students who have only one failed course prior to graduation are given a chance to enter an exam for that course. Double major diploma or minor certificate are not given to students who have not achieved to graduate from their main major. On the other hand, diploma of the main major is given even if the double major or minor certificate requirements are not fulfilled. Minor certificate can be given to students who have not fulfilled double major requirements but fulfilled the minor requirements. Turkish and English diploma suppliments are given to graduates together with their undergraduate diploma. Facilities
Students benefit from facilities of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. There are two computer laboratories equipped with 20 PCs. Since Statistic is a new Department, various attempts are going on to increase the facilities.Department’s academic team consists of 1 Professors, 1 Assistant Professors, 1 Dr. Research Assistants.
