General Description ^
History
The Ceramic and Glass Department was established by Hakkı İzzet, one of the most important ceramics artists of the country as "The Department of Ceramic Arts". Hakkı İzzet had worked as a faculty member many years and acted as the head of the department and the institution. This department aimed to educate students to act as designers to cover the demands of the ceramics and glass sector. During the first years of the Tatbiki Güzel Sanatlar Yüksek Okulu (School of Applied Fine Arts), the title of the department was changed to "The Department of Keramik"in 1969 and "The Department of Ceramic Arts" in 1965. in 1982, the school joined Marmara University as a faculty,and the Glass Department became "the Department of Ceramic and Glass"
Qualification Awarded
Students who complete the programme are awarded a Bachelor's degree in Department .
Specific Admission Requirements
Applicants must have a high school diploma (or equivalent) and achieve the necessary mark in the entrance examinations.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
"Incoming students are eligible to take an examination diagnosing their ability in a foreign language; the students that pass the exam are exempt from the first year foreign language courses. In addition, students transferring from another department or university may request that certain courses they have already successfully passed be considered equivalent to courses in the music programme. In this case, the board of directors have the right to grant exemption from certain courses if appropriate.

Profile of The Programme
Ceramic Glass Department provides of two mainart branches 1 – Ceramic MainArt Branch 1.1. Industrial Ceramic Design Art Branch 1.2. Self Ceramic Design Art Branch 2 –Glass MainArt Branch 1.1. Industrial Glass Design Art Branch 1.2. Self Glass Design Art Branch Ceramic Glass Department is the member of International Ceramic Academy (LA.C.) which has its center in Swiss and connected to Unesco. Ceramic Glass Department is one of the rare institute which is sustained this academy. Ceramic Glass Department gives education of Licence, Master Program and Satisfactoriness of Art. As well as educating original ceramic and glass artists it also aims to educate the designers who have aesthetic and technical qualities in the fields of industry required. First Grade Education: Basic art education, Introduction to Self Ceramic Design , Introduction to Industrial Ceramic Design, Technical Drawing and other cultural lessons. Second Grade Education: Self Ceramic Design, Industrial Ceramic Design, Technology Research, Technological Applications, Surface Design and other cultural lessons. Third Grade Education: Industrial Ceramic Design, Self Ceramic Design, Technological Applications, Surface Design, Technical Decoration Methods, Production Management Accounts and other cultural lessons. Forth Grade Education: Sector selection year. Students choose Self Ceramic Design or Industrial Design 24 hours a week, in addition to this chapter can also choose one of the Main Art Department, Art Department and Art Courses 8 hours a week. In addition can choose the other departments’ of art courses or an art course 4 hours. Glass Main Art Branch’s education is programmed same as Ceramic Main Art Branch.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates of this program have the opportunity to work in their art fields, in the public or the private sector. In addition, as an artist, can perform their art by studio system or, can work as a consultant on Expert. They can work restoration and conversation areas in related matters. Having master program adequacy of pedagogic training program provided by the Ministry of Education as a teacher can be assigned to the case of get the required score from KPSS.
Access to Further Studies
Students who have successfully completed the undergraduate programme and passed the Master's degree entrance examination and the ALES, KPDS, and ÜDS examinations may enter a Master's degree programme or Proficiency in Arts programme.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
There is one exam for mid term and one exam for end of the term for each semester. Mid term exam is 60% , final exam is 40% effective in the succes rating. The means of assessment and examination as well as the grading criteria for each course are stated in the course descriptions of the programme.
