General Description ^
History
Econometrics department, which consists of three subdepartments involving Statistics, Econometrics and Operational Research, has been performing within the structure of Marmara University Economic and Administrative Sciences since 1986-1987 academic year.
Qualification Awarded
Students who graduate from the department have a four-year bachelor's degree and can be named as Econometricians or Mathematical Economists. The graduated students gain the ability of analytical thinking, mathematical expression, research and learning skills, aptitude for teamwork, modeling and interpreting the results.
Specific Admission Requirements
Candidate students of the department should be graduated from a high school program and also granted sufficient scores determined by the Higher Education Council from university entrance exam which is performed by the Student Selection and Placement Center for admission into university.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
Exams of exemption are organised for the courses taking part in the education plans of the programs such as English and German. The students who have completed the proficiencies for these courses on his/her own or through other means, and believe that they have achieved the learning outcomes specified are given the right to take the exemption exam. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum. Transfer can be made among the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council and the lessons can be exempt which they passed from the other university.

Students have to complete all courses with 240 ECTS credits to entitle a diploma. In addition to this, students have to succeed 2.00 on 4.00 or a higher graduate grade.
Profile of The Programme
Econometrics education emerges the combination of economic theory, mathematics and statistics and defined as a separate dicipline from each of three. The main objective of econometrics using mathematics and statistics to analyze various economic issues and to provide the most appropriate economic decisions.Unlike economics department, department of econometrics aims to train staff who knows economics also statistics and mathematics.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
The graduated students from the department of econometrics can work at the government bodies such as Turkish Statistical Instute, Government Planning Organization, The Undersecretariat Turkish Treasury and Central Bank in addition to this insurance, banking, capital market being the first place they can also work at the research & development, planning and budgeting departments of multi-specialist public and private companies.
Access to Further Studies
The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Students are required to sit for one midterm and one final examination for semester courses. Forty percent of the midterm grade and sixty percent of the final exam grade add up to the overall passing grade. Lecturers can give practice homework during the period.

Facilities
There are 5 professors, 4 associate professors, 5 assistant professors, 1 lecturer, 3 phd research assistants and 4 doctoral student research assistants are working in the department. Students can apply the lessons with package programs in the computer lab.
Key Learning Outcomes ^
1 Students will have theoretical knowledge about basic and developed econometric methods and be able to follow the scientific developments in the field
2 Students will be able to construct micro and macro econometric models with cross-sectional and time-series data, as well as carry out research and applications.
3 Students will be able to carry out research and interpret the results of relevant studies.
4 Studetns will be familiar with basic economic concepts and be able to carry out analytical thinking.
5 Students will have sound background knowledge of the statistics and mathematics that are underlying econometric methods
6 Students will be able to conduct statistical research and implement relevant applications.
7 Students will have analytical thinking skills and be familiar with the necessary mathematical concepts and methods.
8 Students will be able to apply relevant mathematical and statistical methods to their research.
9 Students will be able to use the operational research techniques and perform efficient analyses by using optimization techniques.
10 Students have basic computer knowledge and can use the required programs.
11 Students will be able to interpret the results of research studies, construct models and make forecasts based on the findings.
12 Students will be able to design and conduct research in their field as well as prepare presentations and report findings effectively.
13 Students will be able to examine, criticise and develop reported econometric and statistical studies in the field.
14 Students have knowledge about basic structures of government and private agencies, financial markets, and other companies such as banks, insurance institutions and stockbrokers, and have knowledge and skills to carry out research by analysing and using the relevant information.
15 Students are able to take part in interdisciplinary group projects effectively.
