History
The department of Economics was founded within the body of Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences- Marmara University in 1983. The department of Economics is regarded as leading one among the same departments in the universities of Turkey.

To get the necessary grade from the higher education entrance examinations administered by ÖSYM.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
Rules by The Council of Higher Education. Also, exams of exemption are organised for the courses taking part in the education plans of the programs such as English and German. Transfer can be made among the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council and the lessons can be exempt which they passed from the other university.

Profile of The Programme
Regarded as among the leading universities in Turkey, Marmara University provides students with education in undergraduate and graduate (Master’s thesis with or without thesis and doctor’s thesis) programs. The department of Economics has a well-qualified staff with its approximately 50 lecturers. In the department of Economics, it is basically aimed at developing competencies of students regarding the theory of economics. Apart from this basic aim, it is planned to develop the students’ fundamental knowledge of business administration, accounting, statistics, econometrics and law. In the department, apart form providing students with the competency to be able to analyze the developments in the global and Turkey’s economy, the program is conducted which will enable students to get the additional competency in order to be employed in the possible sectors. The students who are in their third or fourth years are given the opportunity to take selective courses according to their tendencies and interests.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
When students graduate from this program, they have the opportunity to be employed in financial sector and all other sectors as inspectors and experts in the state sector as well in Turkey and all over the world.
Access to Further Studies
The students who graduate from the department have the right to apply for master’s and doctor’s degree programs in both Turkey and abroad countries. (For Turkey via ALES -Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam)
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Students are required to sit for one midterm and one final examination for semester courses. 40% of midterm exam and %60 of final exam has impact on the grade point average. To be successful in the lesson; the students should get at least 50 out of 100.
Graduation Requirements
The students have the right to graduate as successful as long as he is successful in the lessons and reachs 2.00 grade point average. The maximum time for graduating is seven year.

Facilities
The Undergraduate Program gets the students well-prepared to their business life in terms of offering particular lessons of the departments such as business administration, finance, and econometrics. Apart from the lessons related to the economics, the students become well-equipped in terms of advanced level of law, accounting and statistics. Moreover, the students studying in the department of Economics have all the rights determined in the rules and regulations of Marmara University.
