General Description ^
History
Industrial engineering is the engineering branch which supplies the design as a system, development and efficient use of human, material, machine, energy, technology, and information sources in order to raise the efficiency and quality of the companies in the production and service sectors. Industrial Engineering benefit from both the analysis and design methods, and knowledge in the mathematics, computer, social and sciences, in order to build effective production and service systems. Industrial engineers study on the design, planning, improvement, and control of efficient production/ service systems that will provide solution to complex problem. Our department started in 1984 and by 2012 conducts teaching and research activities by 4 professors, 2 associate professors, 4 assistant professors, and 8 research assistants and part time lecturers from related sectors.

Specific Admission Requirements
Students should have a high school degree and an official OSS (university entrance exam) result card. The other requirements will be specified by the university of Marmara.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
The recognition of vertical and horizontal learning, and the the transitions in the university are carried out according to "HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS AND ASSOCIATE DEGREE PROGRAMS BETWEEN THE TRANSITION LEVEL, DOUBLE MAJOR, MINOR AND TRANSFER OF CREDIT INSTITUTIONS ON BASIS OF INTER-REGULATION" which has been identified by the Higher Education Authority. Outside the formal education institutions in Turkey, the recognition of experience or certificate-based (in-formal and non-formal) learning is at an early stage yet. Therefore, all programs of the University of Marmara in full recognition of prior learning has not fully started. In the current situaion, there is no prior learning in industrial engineering department.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Getting enough score in the university entrance exam. The language of instruction is English in our department so the students lack in this regard go to prep school for one year.
Profile of The Programme
The program provides education in the direction of modeling and analyzing the problems in industry and finding the optimum solutions for them. The students are encouraged to work individually and in teams.

Access to Further Studies
Master program received its first students in 1991 and PhD program received its first students in 1993. During the acceptance process to the master and PhD programs, ALES score, GPA, science exam results and interview are evaluated. The objectives of the MSc/PhD programs The aim of the program is to educate students who can find effective solutions for complex industrial engineering problems. The required information and ability for modelling, analyzing, and solving the problems in industry are provided for the students.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
The weight of final exam is 40%. The weight of midterms, projects, homeworks, quizzes and other applications (changes according to the type of the lesson) is 60%. 4 scale grading is used.
Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from the programme it is obliged to complete 142 credits successfully. Evaluation is performed according to letter grading system. Students who have grade points average lower than 2.00 over 4.00 cannot graduate. 60 work days summer internships are obliged. Writing a thesis, in the scope of IE497 Thesis I and IE498 Thesis II lectures in last year of the four year curriculum is obliged.

Facilities
In the deparment of Marmara University Industrial Engineering, there are 4 professors, 2 associate professors, 4 assistant professors and 8 research assistants. Scientific studies are conducted in the areas of scheduling, quality systems, artificial intelligence, heuristics solution methodologies, logistics and reverse logistics.
Key Learning Outcomes ^
1 Students should ossess knowledge about mathematics, science and industrial engineering and have sufficient information about theoretical and applied knowledge in these areas. The students will be able to apply models to solve theoretical and applied engineering problems.
2 Students will be able to identify, formulate and solve complex problems. For this purpose, the student will be able to select and apply appropriate methods, analyses and modelling skills.
3 Students are able to design complex systems, processes, devices or products under realistic constraints and conditions, in order to meet certain requirements. For this purpose, students will be able to apply modern design methods.
4 Students develop, select and use the modern techniques and tools required for the development of industrial engineering applications and will be able to use information technology and at least one computer software program effectively.
5 Students will be able to design experimental setups to investigate industrial engineering problems, conduct experiments, collect data, analyse and interpret results.
6 The student will be able to work effectively with disciplinary and multi-disciplinary teams, and will have self-study skills.
7 Students will be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing , and has knowledge of at least one foreign language (at European Language Portfolio Level B2+).
8 Students will be able to recognize the need for lifelong learning, information access, monitoring and continuous self-renewal ability in science and technology developments.
9 Students have professional and ethical responsibilities.
10 Students will have knowledge about project management, risk management and change management. The student will recognize entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainable development in business life.
11 Students will ahve knowledge about industrial engineering applications on the universal and social dimensions of health, environmental and safety impacts, contemporary issues, engineering solutions, and be aware of the legal consequences.
