History
Based on the degree of the council of ministers published in the official gazette issue 27405 on November 13th, 2009 with number 2009/15546 27 and the additional degree of the council of ministers published in the official gazette issue 27416 on November 24th, 2009 with number 2009/15612 27 Vocational and Technical Education Faculties with 6 different programmes will be closed after graduation of the current students but no later than academic year 2015-2016. Within the academic institutions embodying the closed faculties, 26 new faculties with 3 different programmes were established. Within the universities embodying the closed 21 faculties, (19 of which are Technical Education Faculties and 2 Vocational and Technical Education Faculties) 21 new Faculties of Technology are established. 7 of these 21 Faculties were established with the criteria compliant with the current engineering education programmes and were open to student enrolment by the academic year 2010-2011. One of the faculties open to student enrolment is Faculty of Technology embodied by Marmara University. Department of Textile Engineering was established in 2010 in Marmara University, Faculty of Technology. Our department has one programme and 4 modules which aim to specialise in the fields of Textile Technology, Dyeing and Printing Technology, Ready Made Garment Technology and Textile Management.

Specific Admission Requirements
Total 52 students have been accepted, of which 21 students from the general quota of the department with the Student Selection and Placement System (ÖSYS) and 31 students from the graduate quota of the vocational and technical high schools (M.T.O.K.).
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
The students are placed by the MF-4 grade point to the textile engineering.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
During the textile engineering education 240 ECTS is required.
Profile of The Programme
The programme profile has to provide criterions for the Turkish Accreditation Board of MÜDEK (Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Programs); and later the International Accreditation Board of ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) to educate, who has application based education knowledge, can pass domestic and abroad high level programmes and has the qualifications of the textile industry’s demands.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
No graduation yet. However, as it is based on Applied Textile Engineering programme with the requirements of textile industry, it is expected that the graduates will not have any employment problems.
Access to Further Studies
It is possible to continue further Master study programmes at domestic and universities abroad after graduation with the requirements of application and entrance conditions having been achieved.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
The Examination Regulations of Marmara University are valid in the engineering education. Examinations are applied at midterm and end of the term. Evaluation of the student is determined through a midterm exam, a short exam, assignments, a project and laboratory assessments. Grading of the assessment is declined by the lecturer of the lesson.

Facilities
Textile Engineering Department has equipped laboratories and workshops to be worked for bachelor and master projects, industrial research and development projects. The department has Textile Physical Testing Laboratory (140 m2), Textile Chemical Testing Laboratory (225m2), Textile Composite Laboratory (30m2), Nanofibre Laboratory (30m2), Knitting Workshop (120m2), Weaving Workshop (180m2), Colour Measurement Laboratory (45m2), Ready Made Garment Workshop (250m2), Computer Aided Production Laboratory (30 computers), Computer Aided Design Laboratory (14 computers).
