General Description ^
History
A long history within the Marmara University School of  Physical Education and Sports foundation, established in 1967  depending on the Ministry of Education and sports. And  Youth and Sports Academy was established 1975 consist in the Department of the Istanbul Ataturk Higher Teacher Education School of Physical Education and the Ministry of Youth and Sports and is based on the this two institutions.These two institutions form the basis of our schools',  according to Decree Law No. 41 of Law No. 2908 in 1982, it is based  in Atatürk Education Faculty and is called Department of Physical Education and Sport  in Göztepe campus.Until 1993 in Anadoluhisarı campus ıt was called Physical Education and Sport Teacher  department  depending on Atatürk Education Faculty and since 1993  have become a sport deparment which includes three sections of Coaching Education department faculty privileges, a four-year degree programs at colleges.
Qualification Awarded
The Bachelor's Degree in Coaching ( first cycle in Coaching) is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed 4 years of program in the curriculum.
Specific Admission Requirements
Aplication and admission of circumstances to register for Marmara University Sport Academy Coaching Department and Marmara Univesity senate's suggestion are depend on Turkish Council of Higher Education's decision. The general requirements explained in “General Admission Requirements” of Information on the Institution part are applied for admission of students
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
The rules and regulations for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. Transfer can be made among the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council. Also successful vocational school graduates to continue their educaiton to obtain Bachelor’s degrees if they are successful in the selection and the placement examination (DGS, i.e. vertical transfer examination) are admitted. exams of exemption are organised at the start of each year at the University for the courses of English Language and Computer Skills. The students who have completed the proficiencies for these courses on his/her own or through other means, and believe that they have achieved the learning outcomes specified are given the right to take the exemption exam. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).
Profile of The Programme
Programme of the Coaching Education Department carries out a dense curriculum.;Its education plan aims to educate a good trainer, specialist and conditioning coach in sports branches selected who shows minumum 3 years sport licence when they apply the univesity entry exam. Education programme of the depertmant include optional and compulsory lessons related with training profession and general culture. Before graduating students completed their internship training in sports clubs related to their sports branches lasted for two terms in their forth year.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates work as trainer, insructor, sports specialist and conditioning coach in related sports federations, local sport authotity, clubs, special elemantary and high school and colleges. The standard occupation profile for coaches are: 1) Coach of participation-oriented sports persons and Coach of beginners (child, junior, adult) and 2) Coach of performance-oriented athletes.
Access to Further Studies
The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes who have valid puan from ALES and foreign language exam, that national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines. At the Master level an specialization in "Movement and Training Sciences" exist.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Exams are done in autumun and spring terms which are pratical and written exam in the form of midterm and final. Assessment criteria of exams are calculate midterm effection is %40 and final effection is %60.

Facilities
The number of teaching staff of Coaching Education Department is 34. There are performance, exercise biochemistry, applied sports psychology, computer and climitization laboratories and fitness center, education classes. In addition, there are olympic indoor swimming pool, sports halls, football fields, golf hall, trapshooting hall, indoor and ourdoor tennis courts, olympic athletics field and indoor athletics and artistic gymnastics halls. Our university also support that change the student exchange program with ERASMUS international exchange program into Köln, Estonia and Sofia sport academies in Europe. With different universities from Europe and World can provide academic studying oppurtunities for our master and doctorate degree students.

13 Students provide effective communication skills and knowledge in the athlete-family-trainer-manager relationship in the context of sports events and processes.
