General Description ^
History
The Department of Educational Sciences was founded on 20th July 1982 at Atatürk Faculty of Education , Marmara University ,to offer Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Guidance and Psychological Counselling as well as offering pedagogical formation courses to the other departments of the faculty. The Master’s Degree Program in Educational Administration and Supervision has started started in the academic year 1997-1998, offering MSc Degree in Education , followed by the post graduate programme, offering Ph.d in Education starting from 1999. The non-thesis Master’s Programme has started in the academic year 2011-12.
Qualification Awarded
Upon successful completion of the MSc in Educational Administration and Supervision programme, students receive the MS.c diploma. Graduates of this programme are awarded the degree of ‘ Master of Science’
Specific Admission Requirements
The admission to the Master of Science degree in Education Administration and Supervision program is determined with respect to the academic achievement score. The academic achievement score is determined by ALES, GPA, professional expertise and interview scores.The overall score is calculated by adding, 50% of the ALES score, 20% of GPA, 15% of professional expertise score and 15% of the interview score . The prospective students are admitted to the programme through ranking of the overall score, upon availability. Foreign language certification is not required. Other application requirements such as the deadline, exam dates and venues , are announced prior to the examination. The eligible candidates should either have an undergraduate diploma or be seniors who will be receiving their degrees before the matriculations. Candidates must have ALES (which is valid for 3 years) scores of at least 60 from Turkish-Math or an equivalent exam score like GRE (Graduate Record Examination, equivalent score: 635), or GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test, equivalent score: 466). The equivalency of foreign university diplomas must be approved by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). The candidates must submit the documents below to the Institute of Educational Sciences before the deadline. 1- The application form (to be filled online at the web site of the university or the institute) 2- The Graduation Certificate (a photocopy of the graduation certificate). The candidates who apply for non-thesis master’s degree programs must be graduates of four-year undergraduate programs or in the final semester of their undergraduate programs. 3- The document of the exam result: a photocopy of ALES, GRE or GMAT scores. 4- A photocopy of Turkish National ID Card. (the Turkish translation of the passport of foreign students) 5- Photograph (2 copies) (Photographs must be taken directly from the front side) 6- A copy of the transcript. (The candidates who haven’t graduated yet must deliver a copy of up-to-date transcript. 7- The Document of the Status of Military Service: Turkish male candidates must deliver the document of their status of military service. 8- The equivalency document: the graduates of foreign universities must get the equivalency document from the Council of Higher Education and deliver a notarized copy of the equivalency document 9- The documents above must be translated into Turkish and must be notarized for foreign students. The documents below are required from foreign students. a- A notarized copy of the document which shows that the candidate knows Turkish, given by TÖMER. b- A copy of the ALES result for the students who have completed their undergraduate education in Turkey and come from Turkish Republics and Turkish and Relative Communities in Asia and the Balkans. (ALES is valid for 3 years) c- A notarized copy of the passport. d- A notarized copy of the student visa. (The student visa is not required for the students applying for Master’ Degree who have completed their undergraduate education in Turkey and haven’t had a one-year break after graduation.) e- Medical board report showing the student doesn’t have an illness which prevents the student from studying in Turkey. f- The residence permit for foreign candidates. Candidates can apply to the Institute personally or via a notarized proxy. The applications by mail will not be accepted. Preliminary application is made via the internet, followed by the submission of the required documents to the Institute ; Otherwise the application will be invalid. Pre -registration can not be completed without these documents. The applications which do not fulfill these conditions are nulled. Candidates from the substitute list are accepted, in case where full listed candidate(s) fail to register.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
The students who have successfully completed at least two semesters with passing grade from all courses attended in another higher education institution can be accepted to postgraduate programmes subject to the following conditions:Provided that it is also approved by the head of department of the relevant dicipline, the applicant should be successful in the evaluation of a jury appointed by the Administrative Committee. The deadline for transfer applications for the graduate students is the beginning of the fourth semester. The Administrative Committee determines the credit and non-credit compulsory courses to be taken as well as any additional ones(if any ;to be recommended by the evaluation jury) concerning the transfer student. Any extention to be given or other provisions are also subject to the decision of the Administrative Committee . Additional courses to be recommended by the jury cannot exceed nine credits The student has to successfully complete additional courses until the end of the study period. The students who wish to expand their knowledge about a definite subject and who are either graduates or undergraduate students can be accepted as a guest student to a maximum of two graduate courses upon availability with the approval of the administrative comittee and the recommendation of the heads of the departments. For every semester, the guest students are obliged to pay for a tuition fee per course determined by the administrative comittee of the university. The guest students have to fulfill the compulsory course requisites . The guest students can not benefit from the rights of students. However, in the following year, if they manage to enroll in a graduate programme, they can be exempt from relevant courses subject to the approval pf the Administrative Committee, provided that te number of credits for these courses do not exceed one third of the total credit requirement of the programme.. A student cannot be not exempted from a course due to skills and knowledge obtained by means of inservice trainings, courses and informal ways.

The programme, provided that it is not less than thirty credits in total, consists of ten compulsory and elective courses at least and a term project. Besides quiz and final exams, reports in classes, homework, tests, seminar presentations and project studies are used to evaluate a student’s success in a course. The students need to get at least sixty five points on a one hundred scale to be able to successful in related course. Term Project course is non-credit and students are evaluated as either successful or unsuccessful.The student can enroll again in the courses he/she has failed in the following year and also enroll in other graduate courses subject to the approval of their advisors. The students has to enroll the Term Project when he/she gets the term project and hand a written report in at the end of the term. According to the standarts set by the Administrative Committee, acompetency exam is need to be taken at the end of the Non-thesis Master’s Programme. The student , can take two undergraduate courses at most provided that these courses have not been taken during undergraduate studies. Among the students who have enrolled to day and evening classes of Non-thesis Master’s Programme, some students may lack the necessary scientific knowledge. Those students who lack the necessary scientific knowledge may have to take extra courses. (4 courses and a total of 9 credits at the most). These courses can’t be used for getting the necessary credits. The students joining the evening classes pay contribuitons.If it is seen appropriate that the student should take more than 9 courses, he/she joins the scientific preparatory courses. The student has to enroll in the thesis research every semester from the beginning of the third semester at the latest. Thesis defense takes place within two months following the submission.. But according to Article 47,this period can be three semester for students who have had course exemption or who have been nominated by their advisors ; both subject to the approval of the Administrative Committee. In non-thesis Master’s proggramme, head of the department of the relevant discipline assign a faculty member or a faculty lecturer for every student for choosing courses and conducting the Term Project until the the end of the first semester. The students can finish non-thesis Master’s degree in 6 semesters at the latest. The students who can’t finish the courses within the given time or the students who have completed their courses who have under 2,50 GANO are dismissed from the institute.
Profile of The Programme
Marmara University Master’s Programme of Education Administration and Supervision conducts to educate modern practitioners, who are specialized in different subjects in the field of Education Administration and Supervision; can derive new knowledge using its own knowledge and experience in the field of Educational Sciences; can create new subjects and fields of study; can offer its achieved scienctific findings written or oral to the national and international science world; has internalized ethical values and modern scientific thought; is aware the problems in practice and can design researchs to solve these problems and has internalized significance of life-long learning. The duration of non-thesis Master’s Program is six semesters at the most. In first two terms students should take 60 ECTS credits consisting of both compulsory and elective courses with a term Project. Among the students who have enrolled to day and evening classes of Non-thesis Master’s Programme, some students may lack the necessary scientific knowledge. Those students who lack the necessary scientific knowledge may have to take extra courses. (4 courses and a total of 9 credits at the most).
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
The graduates of this programme can pursue an academic career in universities, at home or abroad. Moreover, this program provides its graduates who are teachers in Ministry of National Education to be able to move on to administrative cadres and advance in their careers.
Access to Further Studies
The graduates from this program can apply to both their own Ph.D program and other Ph.D programs if they provide the required ALES exam score and English proficiency.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
At least one midterm and final exams for credit courses and seminar courses of Master’s program are conducted. The contribution of midterm exams to the success is 40% and final exams, 60%. Registered students of the program must get at least 65 or higher points and attend to all courses.

Facilities
There are thesis, non-thesis MA and Ph.D programs in Educational Administration and Supervision Department. There are 2 seminar rooms in Educational Sciences department. Faculty are 3 professors, 1 Associate professor, 1 Assistant professor and 1 Research assistant.
