History
The "Department of German Language Teaching" was founded as a part of the "Foreign Language Teaching Department" at Atatürk Education Faculty". The teaching staff trainee teachers of the both language schools "Istanbul Atatürk Yüksek Öğretmen Okulu" (4 years) and "Moda Yabancı Diller Yüksek Okulu"(3 years) unite in "Alman Dili ve Eğitimi Anabilim Dalı". Later the department was supported by academic staff, and the trainee teachers with ÖSYS were accepted. Since 1995 the department was named "Alman Dili Eğitimi Bölümü" and after 1998 it was renamed "Alman Dili Eğitimi Anabilim Dalı". Atatürk Education Faculty is one of the oldest teachertraining institutions in Turkey. As a result of drawing from its distinguished past, and by means of continuous improvement and expansion, the Faculty has succeeded in becoming a leading school of its kind and one of Turkey’s most important sources of new teachers. With nearly 8,000 students and around 220 teaching faculty members, the Faculty is located on the Goztepe Campus, which is itself spread over a 15 acre site on the Anatolian side of Istanbul. The Faculty is home to a complex of buildings containing approximately 100 classrooms.

Specific Admission Requirements
For admission to a Master Program a degree of B.A. is essential and it is required to successfully pass the exam ALES (Academic Staff and Graduate Education Test). ALES should be of at least 60 points. After admission performed the science exam and oral exams. According to these results: 20% of the average of the B.A. graduation , 50% of ALES , 15% of the science exam , 15% of the oral exam assessed.

Undergraduate for graduate studies, graduate studies for Ph-D. The Master Program includes two years. The first year comprises theoretical and practical lessons. In the second year the thesis prepared. In the first semester there are four lessons, in the second semester there are five lessons.

The theoretical lessons includes linguistics, language aquisition, literature and methods of foreign language fields. The topics of the practical lessons are scientific methods of working. The assessment based on the principle of 40% for the intermediate examination and 60% for the final exam. The final evaluation of each semester must be at least 2,50 points.
Profile of The Programme
The Master Program includes two years. The first year comprises theoretical and practical lessons. In the second year the thesis prepared. In the first semester the theoretical lessons includes linguistics, language aquisition, literature and methods of foreign language fields. The aim of the program is a detailed introduction into scientific topics and an intensive scientific work on examples. The students receive an advanced expert based on the thesis.

Graduation Requirements
The German Education master's degree courses in order to be at least 2 in both periods, 50 should be taken note of success. Apart from that, one year after the first year phase of the thesis should be prepared. The thesis must be defended before a jury. After this process, and master's degrees to graduate students would be entitled to receive.

Facilities
The main campus of Atatürk Education Faculty is located in a central location on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, one of the most important metropolitan cities in the world. Thus, compared to the students of other universities of Turkey, our students have the great advantage of getting much easier access to all kinds of social, cultural, educational and sporting activities. These opportunities enhance our students’ cognitive, affective and psycho-motor development. Our students can attend several universities in Germany at the undergraduate and graduate levels as well because of the agreements that our university has related to the ERASMUS programme: Cologne University, Berlin Humboldt University, Regensburg University, Bielefeld University, Weingarten Educational University, Koblenz-Landau University, Wuppertal University. Besides, our students can attend doublemajor programmes at our faculty. With in the framework of the Erasmus Program there are agreements for students and faculty exchange with eight universities in Germany, corporate cooperation with DAAD, with the Goethe-Institute, Academic Library, Computer Lab., Classes and Projections
