General Description ^
History
The Institute of Science was established on July 10, 1982. Since March 1983, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Technical Education, Arts and Sciences - Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Ataturk Education Faculty and Music Education with a related discipline, research and practice are being researched. Today, 933 MA and 378 Ph.D., for a total of 1311 graduate students are receiving education. 263 instructors serve .

Profile of The Programme
Program is composed of two parts: Lectures and Master Thesis. Lectures include detailed topics related to Biology: Plant Diseases and Microbiology, Botanics, General Biology, Hydrobiology, Molecular Biology and Zoology. A number of research groups are quite productive in the field and publish in internationally respected journals. These research areas are: food microbiology, microbial ecosystems, diagnostic microbiology, industrial microbiology, water microbiology, identification of macrofungi and microfungi, beneficial and harmful microfungi, hide industry, biosensors, classical and molecular taxonomy of microorganisms, halophilic bacteria and archaea, clinical microbiology, antimicrobial agents, ecology, floristic, plant pathology, phytosociology, lichenology, endemic plants, plant systematics and morphology, plant molecular systematics, plant physiology, plant salt stress studies, plant developmental biology, effects of chemicals on plant development, molecular marker studies in plant biotechnology, plant tissue culture, genotoxicity studies, human molecular cardiology, human molecular endocrinology, human transcriptomics, human metabolomics, human pharmacogenomics, human nutrigenomics, human polymorphism studies, human gene expression profiling and human cell cultures, aquatic ecosystems, heavy metals, pesticides, the other environmental pollutants adversely effecting invertebrates and vertebrates, fresh water ecology, limnology, fish reproductive biology, genomics and proteomics, toxicology, genotoxicology and nanotoxicology,animal physiology, the production of insect whis are used in biological control, environmental factors affecting animal physiology. The faculty members are comprised of internationally respected research scientists, and the department is successful in attracting major research grants. The students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to pursue international scholarship programs through Erasmus Student Network.

Our graduates have found positions in official or private sectors in hospitals, industrial and pharmaceutical enterprises, in diagnostic and research laboratories, in marketing fields and in positions as teaching and research assistants in distinguished universities of Turkey, all over the world.
Access to Further Studies
Msc postgraduates of Biology, and other appropriate scientific disciplines that are compatible with this area, can be admitted to higher education programs such as PhD in Biology, under the rules of the institution.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
The passing achievement grade of each course should be minimum 65/100. In the calculation of final achievement grade of course, raitos of the grades obtained from the midterm( s) and final examinations are taken as 50% of each. The grade (S) and grade (U) are used for the Seminar Courrse and Master's Thesis. The grade (S) is given to students who are successful and the grade (U) is given to students who are not successful. The student's standing is calculated in the forms of a GPA and a CGPA and anounced at the end of each semester by the Registirar's Office. The total score obtained by the student in a particular education period is calculated by the summing up individual scores which are obtained via the multiplicaiton of the final achievement grade by the credit of the course. In order to obtain the GPA for any given semester, the total score earned in that semester is divided by the sum of credits. The CGPA is calculated by taking into account all the courses taken by a student starting from her/his registration.
Graduation Requirements
Students must successfully complete at least 21 credit hours of lessons and non-credit Seminar and also prepare and successfully defend a M. Sc. thesis. 6 hours of the 21 credit hours must be taken from the core lessons. Students must give a seminar about their thesis. Also every semester during the thesis studies, students must pass the non-credit theoretical courses.
