General Description ^
History
Biochemistry Program was established in fall semester of 1988-1989 academic year. During this period, Prof. Dr. Mine Enginün was appointed as the first ‘chair of the program. Prof. Dr. Mine Enginün conducted the program chair until 1998. Current program chair is Prof. Dr. Ayşe Ogan since 1998. There is one proffesor in Biochemistry Program. Education Language is Turkish.

Applicants; must have a B. Sc. degree and must take at least 60 points out of 100 from the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Examination(ALES) organized by Higher Education Council Student Selection and Placement Center(ÖSYM). Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
The programme is open for all the scientific areas related to Biochemistry and all students who have a B.Sc. degree in biology, chemistry, chemistry education, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, bioengineering, pharmacy, medicine, food engineering, molecular biology and genetics etc.

Profile of The Programme
The programme consists of two essential parts; courses and the thesis. The courses are related with the biochemistry aspects detailed in several fields such as biostatistics, biochemical methods, molecular biology and its applications, bioorganic, special topics in biochemistry, seminar etc. There is also Scientific Preparatory Program for students who have graduated from other fields.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates can continue their academic career or they can find positions in quality control, research and development or production departments of medicine, food, clinic, microbiology, genetic laboratories.
Access to Further Studies
Graduates of Master of Biochemistry may apply to doctoral programs which are compatible with the field of Biochemistry and other scientific areas. If they are successful they are accepted to the doctoral programs.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
The passing achievement grade of each course should be minimum 65/100. In the calculation of final achievement grade of course, raitos of the grades obtained from the mid-term(s) and final examinations are taken as 50% of each. The grade (S) and grade (U) are used for the Seminar Course and Master's Thesis. The grade (S) is given to students who are successful and the grade (U) is given to students who are not successful. The student's standing is calculated in the forms of a GPA and a CGPA and anounced at the end of each semester by the Registirar's Office. The total score obtained by the student in a particular education period is calculated by the summing up individual scores which are obtained via the multiplicaiton of the final achievement grade by the credit of the course. In order to obtain the GPA for any given semester, the total score earned in that semester is divided by the sum of credits. The CGPA is calculated by taking into account all the courses taken by a student starting from her/his registration.
Graduation Requirements
Students must successfully complete at least 21 credit hours of lessons and non-credit Seminar and also prepare and successfully defend a M. Sc. thesis. 9 hours of the 21 credit hours must be taken from the core lessons. Students must give a seminar about their thesis. Also every semester during the thesis studies, students must pass the non-credit theoretical courses.

Facilities
The facilities of chemistry Department are available for all graduate students of Biochemistry Program. Qualified students of the program are equipped with research laboratories that include the following instrumentations: UV spectrophotometer. 2-D Electrophoresis system, micro plate reader (UV and fluorescence wavelength).
