General Description ^
History
Aquatic Products Department was established in 2001-2002 academic year with approval of Higher Education Institution (YÖK) under “Institute for Graduate Studies in Pure and Applied Sciences”. Yet, again has started to post-graduate student intake in the same academic year (2001-2002).
Qualification Awarded
After successful completion of the program, students will be awarded Master of Science degree in Aquatic Products.
Specific Admission Requirements
The studies in the Marmara University according to the process established by the YÖK (Higher Education Council) regulations. The detail information about the application (once or sometimes twice a year) and access requirements are released before academic year starts on its web site (www.marmara.edu.tr). Students who have started studies in other universities within or outside of the country may apply for their recognition. The recognition record is unique for each student and therefore the procedure is carried out accordingly before the start of each academic year.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
With the approval of commission, student can be exempt from the courses, if the courses' content previsously taken from other higher education institutions are appropriate with the courses taught in our department.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
For graduatiotion of graduate students from our department, they have to succsessfully complete the mandatory coruses and seminars and they also be sufficient from their thesis conducted by their thesis advisor.
Profile of The Programme
Master degree diploma is given to the graduate students who has accomplished his/her credits, seminar and passed the thesis examination. Fisheries Program Graduate students learn - basic knowledge in the field of inland water and marine fish farming - fish feeding and fish transportation - diagnose and treat fish diseases - seafood harvesting and process technologies implementation - Project preparation - Providing workplace and job security
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
There are opportunity to study as water product engineer in; various public and private establishment, water products processing plants, fishing fleet, researcher and quality control expert of research and development laboratory, private sector (food factories, aquatic organism production institution) public sector (Directorate of state Hydraulic Works, Ministry of Agriculture, Academic Personel of University).
Access to Further Studies
Since there is no Ph.D. program in our department; students, who complete the Aquatic Products Program successfully, may apply to the Ph.D. programs in the fisheries area or other suitable branches of science in our university or other universities.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
According to Marmara University Associate Degree and License Education and Examination Guide, 50 % of midterm examination and 50 % of final examination are taken for evaluation of final grade to be successful in the course.
Graduation Requirements
In order to get the degree/ complete the program, take a course from the graduate program that announced, equivalent to 120 ECTS and complete of these course with success is required. In addition, the student should carry out a research under the supervision of a lecturer. Having followed the submission of thesis, the student is required to have a oral prentation his/her work.

Facilities
Graduate students in Fisheries Department; utilize both from laboratory of fisheries program and laboratory of biology and chemistry in faculty of science and letters. On the other hand taken advantage of facility of İstanbul University Fisheries faculty and Institute of Marine Sciences and Management. In our department, there are 2 professors, 1 assistant professor, 1 associate professor. Beside, faculty members of biology, chemistry, environmental engineering and chemical engineering provides support to our department.
