History
Textile Department established in 1957 as one of five department of “School of Tatbiki Güzel Sanatlar”.

Specific Admission Requirements
Canditates must have Bachelor's Degree from the faculties that are announced in application conditions. All candidates have to pass Graduate Qualifying Exam (drawing, writing exam,interview,portfolio evaluation) and one of the announced Language Exams.Candidates who did not graduate from Fine Arts and Art&Design Faculties have to get at least the minimum required grade in ALES, as well.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
İf the student wanted to study at Fine Arts Enstitute textile programme after being in a similar master programme in other universities and request exemption from a course that they already passed in their previous education, related administrative council evaulates the situation and decides about the exemption request.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Students who complete all the requirements such as courses and practises, and who get the approval from their Thesis Jury after completing their Master thesis gain the rights to get their MA degree.
Profile of The Programme
The aim of the programme is to evaluate and develop the theories and practices in textile design area. In the first year the students have the courses and in the second year they write their Master thesis. Postgraduate education (master degree) is provided by offering 4 main project lessons organized in department of textile. 10 Postgraduate students are accepted in June every year. WEAVING EXPERTISE: Design projects are created by using weaving techniques. Prototype production, weaving design projects where woven fabrics are manufactured by using mixed techniques and traditional and contemporary woven fabric productions in carpet-rug looms are realized in the weaving atelier composing of 4 framed hand looms, 24 framed armure looms and a gobelin loom. PRINTING EXPERTISE: There is a printing atelier where various printing techniques are used ranging from basic printing and manual screen printing. Printing design projects are created by using contemporary designs where both free and repeated printing motifs can be seen. Moreover, traditional printing techniques and artistic textile works are also observe in Handicrafts atelier. CLOTHING EXPERTISE: There is a clothing atelier where form, volume and material relationship is tested and a sewing atelier where sewing techniques are used. In addition to free artistic works where creativity stands out, applications for ready- made clothing and technical courses are also available. Fabrics produced by students by using printing or weaving are dimensioned and transformed into genuine clothing design projects again by students. KNITTING EXPERTISE: Design projects are created by using knitting techniques. Prototype production is made and free artistic knitted fabrics are produced in knitting atelier that has single and double bed hand knitting machines. Design courses are technically supported by knitting technology and workshops.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates of the first 5 years took place in important positions in the textile sector such as Sumerbank factories where had been the basis of the sector. Today, department contributes to the textile sector with new ideas via Weaving, Knitting, Carpet, Print Pattern, Clothing fashions competations. Departmend awarded, with the first prize at the World Craft exhibition in Bulgaria-Oreşak in 1984. Handicraft and textile souvenir competitions of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture hab been consistently won by our graduates. In August 1978 / Novum Gebrauchs publication, published the success of the department with visual samples. Department made very important art and design exhibitions for the sector and trade fairs such as İSOSEM, OTİM, HILTON, CNR, TUYAP. With international activities, world-renowned fashion and textiles designers, competitions, awards and individual achievements in the industry, the department continiued to sample in weaving, knitting, printing, clothing, crafts and artistic fields. With national and international meetings, the deeply rooted culture of textiles in our country has been carried to the academic environment with artistic and scientific knowledge by our staff. Students have shown great success in various competitions. For example, in İTHİB fabric competitions,students won prizes every year since 2005.Especially in the last 6 years our department, academic staff, students and graduates joind to the fairs and exhibitions organised by industry such as ITKIB, TGSD. The successfull results of ITHIB, ITKIB, leather and tgs clothing competitions proves the success of the department. Department of Textile Arts, meet the creative element needs the creative element of the sector. In this sense, the department is the artistic side of the industry where the aesthetic and technique meets. For example, students in the department have been undersigning several achievements every year in ITHIB fabric competitions since 2005. The results obtained in ITHIB, ITKIB, Leather TGSD and TAC printing and clothing design competitions serve as a concrete indicator of the cooperation between the industry and education in this field. Furthermore, realization of the projects in competitions show that significant achievements have been gained in design education in the last 7 years. Department students have been successful on the international platform in 2010 and 2011. Holding the first rank in Turkey and the third rank in Europe in international Euroskill clothing design contest in 2010, students succeeded to hold the first rank in Turkey and second rank in the world in international Triumph underwear design competition in 2011. Moreover, the department contributed to the department and students with the design competitions it organized in cooperation with Turad and Pier Carden in 2010 and 2011. In other words, these design competitions not only emphasize the students’ achievements but also present sector’s relationship with education regarding value added products as well as the level of the sector in terms of creativity-innovation. Besides these competitions, the department also conducts joint design projects with the industry; the department and its students are introduced to the sector with the help of booths in significant textile fairs. Lecturers, students and graduates from our department participate in textile congresses. Textile department fulfills the creative force needs of the sector. In this sense, it is the artistic face of the sector and the visual production source where the aesthetics and techniques are combined.
Access to Further Studies
The candidates who compleated the graduate programme successfully may continue their education in Proficiency in Arts on condition that they pass the Graduate Qualifing Exam and the minimum required grades from ALES and one of the announced Language Exams.
