General Description ^
History
Association of Basic Science Teachers in Dentistry (ABSTD) was established under the umbrella of Association of Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) and the first meeting of ABSTD was held in 1997 in Sheffield, Unites Kingdom. In the light of Bologna Declaration Prof.Dr. Şükran Atamer-Şimşek as a member of ABSTD was the coordinator of the session of integration of basic sciences into clinical sciences in this meeting. She has also attended next ABSTD meeting which was held in Barcelona, Spain in 1999. In the basis of decisions and suggestions of these meetings it has been aimed to contemporary postgraduate education of dentist in the European Union countries and studies has been started to open Oral Biology postgraduate education programme. For this purpose studies dealing with both determination of curriculum and the subjects of the courses and providing of scientific sources to the library of the faculty has been started. Prof.Dr.Şükran Atamer Şimşek head of the basic science department appealed to open Oral Biology Master programme to Institute of Health Sciences of Marmara University and it has been opened at June 18, 1999. Main goals of the opening of this programme are cooperation and integration of basic and clinical sciences, and motivate multidisciplinary thinking covering pre-and paraclinics and oral researches , vertical and horizontal integration and implementation of doctrines of basic sciences in clinics. There are many students graduated since the establishment of this programme.
