General Description ^
At the Health Sciences Institute of Marmara University, Turkey's most established and oldest graduate program in the field of sports sciences has been carried out since 1985. Tuning to recent developments in sport science now three programs are delivered at the Master level: 1. Movement and Training Sciences 2. Sport Health Sciences 3. Sport Mangement Sciences
Qualification Awarded
Students who successfully complete a minimum of 30 credits of courses in the Sport Health Sciences Master program and obtain at least 2.50 weighted mean scores on a 4.00 scale, and successfully defending a thesis against a selected jury will be awarded by the Master degree of Physical Education and Sport, Sport Health Sciences and will gain expert status in this area.
Specific Admission Requirements
Applicants to the graduate programs must submit their diplomas after completing a 4-year undergraduate degree program and graduate. For conditional pre-admission, the student has to be in the last semester of a bachelor program. (Those students, who could not graduate prior to the date of final registration, will not be able to present their graduation certificates and will be disclosed from registration even if they had been on the original winning list). The candidate students will be registered, if they could provide documentation of ALES (Academic Personel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Examen) scores at least of 60 performed by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), or some equivalent score in an examination accepted by the Higher University Council (635 GRE, GMAT 466).
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
The student has to complete at least four years of undergraduate education; students who have not studied areas of Sport Science will be implemented in the "Academic Preparation Program". These students will have to take additional courses.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
The evaluation of candidates is based on 50% of the ALES score, 20% of the graduation score, 15% of professional knowledge exam score, and15% of assessment interview (oral) score on a scale of 100. Different scoring systems on graduation documents (like 4 or 5 scales, or letters) will be transferred to the 100 scale scoring system according to the decisions of the Senate of Marmara University. Foreign students must apply according to the criteria declared at the university's home page.
Profile of The Programme
In the Master program in Sport Health Sciences a multidisciplinary curriculum has been devolped enabling sports scientist, physical education teachers, coaches and experts from different disciplines (physiotherapists, diyet specialists, engineers, etc.) to receive training together.The program includes compulsory and selective courses on advanced speciality or general or cultural topics. By the great number of elective courses, students are given the chance to choose according to their preferences, which makes the program versatile.Thus, during the post-graduate training in Sport Health Sciences the performance of different age groups as well as elite athletes can be modeled, and different groups involved in sports for health may be investigated. In this context, knowledge of exercise physiology, biomechanics, and other concepts of movement and exercise science are transferred to the student in an applied way based on scientific contemporary approaches.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Wider employment opportunities for graduates of our programs exist: if they are successful in entrance exams they may serve as a lecturer at universities that offer training in the field. Also, various organizations and institutions, research centers, athletes, sports clubs, sports federations, municipalities, sport and recreation departments, gymnastics clubs, and clubs for aerobics, extreme sports, martial arts, as well as the hospital and related clinical settings provide positions as consultant, exercise and fitness experts.
Access to Further Studies
All students who have completed the program and obtained the Master degree in “Sport Health Sciences” gain the right to continue in the doctoral programs of the Health Institute, especially the doctoral programs “Movement and Training Sciences”, “Sport Health Sciences” and “Sports Management”.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Students are subjected to midterm and final exam for each course; depending on the preferences of the tutor academic achievement grades, intermediate exams, projects, seminars, quizzes, homework, midterm exams will differently contribute to the final achievement. All exams are evaluated on a scale of 100 points. The students are required are required to obtain at least 65 points in the mid-term exam and final exam. Students who have received letter grades (AA /Excellent ), (BA / Very Good), (BB / Good), (CB / Medium-Good) and (CC / Medium) will successfully pass the course.
Graduation Requirements
This program provided a total of 30 credits and a minimum of ten courses, one seminar course and thesis work. Students who successfully complete a minimum of 30 credits of courses in the Sport Health Sciences Master program and obtain at least 2.50 weighted mean scores on a 4.00 scale, and successfully defending a thesis against a selected jury will be awarded by the Master degree of Physical Education and Sport, Sport Health Sciences. The program should be completed in three years.

The laboratories and facilities of the School of Physical Education and Sport are utilized. Facilities within the Sports Science and Sports Health Research and Application Center, as well as a research lab, and also an indoor semi-olympic swimming pool, an indoor sports hall, two outdoor and one indoor tennis courts, a gymnasium, four separate halls for martial arts, one folk dance hall, a shooting and a golf center, a fitness center, an athletics track, a canoe-paddle -sailing boat house, and two artificial ground football fields are used.
