General Description ^
Pysiotherapy and rehabilitation master program according to Health Sciences Institute started to education as of the academic year 2008-09. Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation; determines the requirements by making necessary evaluations with respect to physical functions in healthy, patient and all other groups (children, geriatrics, disabled or handicapped individuals), develops and implements prevention programs, identifies and applies treatment methods specific to physiotherapy profession and support and develop ways to increase participation in social and professional community in the case of need, improve the quality of life. In this discipline; scientific and evidence-based studies are performed regarding physiotherapy and rehabilitation of diseases that affects physical functions. Qualified researchers who have adequate knowledge in this field are educated. This discipline educates scientists for doctorate programs and brings in the ability to make an advanced professional practice.
Qualification Awarded
The student who successfully complete the master thesis program, gains the title of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation master.
Specific Admission Requirements
The students are accepted to the postgraduate program by interview. The number of students who will admitted to the master program and the quanlifications of candidates are announced before the beginning of each semester. Application requirements and deadlines, date and place of interview are indicated in the announcements. The candidates must have graduate diploma and have minimum 60 point from ALES examination which is performed by OSYM or equivalent of minimum 60 point from examinations of Graduate Record Examination (GRE) veya Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). the equivalence of diplomas obtained abroad license must be approved by Council of Higher Education (HEC). The candidates should collect ALES documant, graduate diploma, transcript and other documents concerning registration and apply with candidate number that is provided from internet registration section to directorship the institute before the deadline date specified in the announcement. Registration of canditates shall be organized by direction of institute. If Turkish candidates and the candidates who are from Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus completed the necessary application requirements, they are taken to the foreign language examination at the Foreign Languages Deparmant of University. A candidate must get minimum 50 point to be succesful in that examination which is performed in English. However, the candicates who get minimum 50 point from ÜDS examination, are exempt from the foreign language exam. Candidates who successfully passed the foreign language exam, will be interviewed by a candidate assisment jury. Interview grades are given over 100 point. Scientific success level of a candidate is sum of 50% of ALES point, 25% of GPA and 25% of interview note. İnterview note of candidates must be at least 50 point and scientific success level of candidates must be at least 60 point.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
The student who has physiotherapy rehabilitation license and the successful student who complete at least one half year in a graduate program can be admitted to the graduate programs through horizontal transfer. In order to accept the horizontal transfer application of a student, average of weighted grade point of the taken courses until the application date must be at least 70, courses and entry requirements of ongoing graduate education program and the desired program must be in harmony, lecturer who could undertake thesis consulting and infrastructure facilities must be present at the related discipline. The student who want to make horizontal transfer a graduate program of the university; applies to the related institute headship by adding the documents which identifies continuing education program and indicates success status of the registered courses to the filed. Director of the institute; requests the opinion of discipline by sending the application documents to the relevant discipline and if the opinion of discipline is positive requests names of the courses required to take for adaptation of the student to the program. Whether horizontal transfer request of student is appropriate or not is decided by examining the opinions and suggestions of the discipline in the institute board of the directors before the date of the request for transfer. The courses which one of the taken courses when the student was in a graduate program of another university will accept for the minimum course load in the case of registration to the graduate program at the university are decided by suggestion of advisor and related discipline and approval of institute board of the directors. Recognition process of non-formal certificate-based or experienced-based education except of formal education institutions in Turkey is at the beginning stage.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Program consists of at least seven courses not less than totally 21 credits, one seminar course and the master thesis Project. Graduate curriculum consists of compulsory and elective courses. Total ACTS credit of program is 120. However, the students who take and successfully complete some courses as remedial student at undergraduate level according to eighth article of MARMARA UNIVERSITY GRADUATE EDUCATION REGULATION and the students who complete the graduate program and the students who complete the graduate program at a faculty which has longer than eight half term education period including preparatory class or complete the thesis soonest could complete their education in a shorter time by the necessary suggestion of relevant discipline and the decision of the Board of Directors. Learning activities as reports, homeworks, quizs, seminar presentations and project studies can be used in the half term performance assessment of student in addition to midterm and final exams. Students must get a note of at least 70 out of 100 in order to be successful in a related course. If the student failed in the courses, the student could re-register or take any other graduate courses that approved by advisor.Furthermore, courses could be chosen from courses of other institutions of higher education by the necessary suggestion of advisor and relevant institute discipline headship and the approval of the Board of Directors or from courses in the PhD program if deemed necessary.Possibility of how many of the courses could be considered instead of minimum course load of 21 credits is stated by institute provided those not exceed nine credit hours of courses taken at other higher education institutions. The student could choose maximum two courses from license programs provided that not to get these courses during license education. Seminar course and thesis project are non-credit coursesaccording to local credit system and evaluated as successful or unsuccessful. The student must make registration to thesis study at each half term since the beginning of the third half-year. The student at a master program with thesis, must write the results obtained with the thesis in accordance with thesis writing rules of related institute and defend the thesis orally before the jury. Following the defense, jury decides acceptance, rejection or correction of the thesis by majority. If correction of the student’s thesis is needed, the student makes the necessities at the latest within three months and defends again the thesis before the same jury. The student whose thesis is rejected at the end of the defense will be dismissed.

The program includes elective courses such as Special Assessment Methods in Physiotherapy Rehabilitation, Specific Mobilisation and Manipulation Techniques, Advanced Electhrotherapy, Advanced Kinesiology, Neurologic Physiotherapy Rehabilitation, Neuromuscular Disorders and Rehabilitation, Orthopedic Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Rehabilitation Practices in Public Health, Rehabilitation in Muscle Tonus Disorders, Ergonomic Principles in Physiotherapy, Geriatric Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation in Neurosurgery, Pediatric Rehabilitation, Rehabilitation in Musculoskeletal Traumas, Preventive Physiotherapy. Courses of Seminar and Research Methods are mandatory.

Access to Further Studies
The students who completed the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation program should apply the doctorate program in the same field. The acceptance of application that are made from another profession-specific field is possible with approval of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department.
