General Description ^
History
Master of Science in Nursing Program at Surgical Nursing Department started in 2004. Surgical Nursing Department is about on research of perioperative nursing care. This department aims to educate qualified researchers who have enough eccumulation of knowledge. It aims to educate also scientists on surgical nursing for long time education programs as doctorate.
Qualification Awarded
The Master’s Degree in in Surgical Nursing (second cycle in Surgical Nursing ) is awarded to the graduates who have successfully fulfilled all programme requirements.
Specific Admission Requirements
The applicants who hold a Bachelor's Degree and willing to enroll in the Master's programme may apply to the Directorate of the Graduate School with the documents: 1-Sufficient score (at least 60 out of 100) from the Academic Staff and Graduate Study Education Exam (ALES) conducted by Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM).The candidates fulfilling the criteria outlined above are invited to interwiev. The assessment for admission to masters programs is based on : 50% of ALES, 20% of academic success in the undergraduate programme (cumulative grade point average (CGPA) ),%15 of Professional knowledge assesment note and 15% of interview grade. The results of the evaluation are announced by the Directorate of Graduate School.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
To be graduated from Faculty of Health Science Nursing Division or School of Nursing or School of Health. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Marmara University is not an exception to this.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
The programme consists of a minimum of on courses delivered within the graduate programme of the department and in related fields, one seminar course, and a term project, with a minimum of 30 local credits. The seminar course and ia term projects are non-credit and graded on a pass/fail basis. A student may take uppergraduate courses on the condition that the courses have not been taken during the undergraduate program. However, at most two of these courses may be counted to the Master's course load and credits. Students must register for a term project work and the Specialization Field course offered by his supervisor every semester following the semester, in which the supervisor is appointed. A student who has completed work on the a term project within the time period, must write a term project, using the data collected, according to the specifications of the Graduate School Thesis Writing Guide. It has to deliver to their supervisor. A term Project is presented to institude with the approval of supervisior.
Profile of The Programme
The graduates will have theoretical and practical excellence to provide a holistic nursing care, education and rehabilitation for surgical patients during preoperative, perioperative and postoperative phases.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Nurses with a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Degree on Surgical Nursing can serve as clinical nurse specialists or nursing managers in public hospitals, university hospitals or private hospitals. Besides, they can further advance their academic careers in nursing, midwifery or health officers departments in Surgical Nursing Departments at Faculties of Medical Science or Schools of Nursing
Access to Further Studies
Graduates who successfully completed the Master's Degree, and by taking note ALES valid, providing English language competence, may apply to doctorate (third cycle) programmes in the surgical nursing or in related disciplines.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Students are required to take a mid-term examination and/or complete other assigned projects/homework during the semester and, additionally, are required to take a final examination and/or complete a final project for course evaluation. The final grade is based on the mid-term examination grade, the final examination grade and/or evaluation of final project, with the contributions of 40% and 60%, respectively. To pass any course, a Master's student must receive at least 65 out of 100. Students must repeat courses they have failed or may substitute courses the Department accepts as equivalent. The assessment for each course is described in detail in “Individual Course Description”.

Facilities
Computer laboratory, klinical skill laboratory, clinical practice in the Training and Research Hospital. They are expected to participate in researches and projects carried out by the department. They also contribute to the academic congresses and meetings in accordance with their field of interest.
