History
The Department of Public Health of Marmara University Institute of Health Sciences had started postgraduate programs (MPH and PhD) in 1992-1993. The language of instruction is Turkish. The program aims to develop qualified publichealth specialists who will work in the Ministry of Health. In addition, the program includes preparatory work for the Ph.D. program through which new academicians of public health are raised.
Qualification Awarded
Students who complete the program successfully are awarded the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree.
Specific Admission Requirements
Complying with Marmara University Postgraduate Education Regulations, having a bachelor's degree in Health Sciences (medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry etc.), getting a score of 60 from the Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam, being succesful in the scholastic assessment test and the interview.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
Having a bachelor's degree in Health Sciences (medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry etc). According to the Higher Education Legislation formal education is performed. Students enrolled in the public health graduate programs of other universities’ may apply for transfers. In the case the student is enrolled in a graduate program at our University, which of the courses the student has taken while enrolled in a graduate program at another university, would be considered to be of the minimum course load will be decided upon the proposal of the supervisor and the relevant Department Board; and the approval of the Institute's Board of Directors.

Completing the courses and defending the masters's thesis succesfully.
Profile of The Programme
At the end of the program, the students will gain knowledge and skills in describing, surveying, evaluating community health problems, generating solutions to the problems and managing them. The program will also prepare students for the doctoral level of education.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
The graduates of the program are employed in Community Health Centers, Provincial Health Directorates, the departments in the Ministry of Health, primary, secondary and tertiary health institutions and educational institutions.
Access to Further Studies
Students who complete MPH can have access to PhD studies either in Public Health or in subjects as Epidemiology and Occupational Health, provided that they had sufficient ALES score and English language competency
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Assessment and grading is carried out through written examinations, semester and project assignments and field studies. Literature and seminar presentations, skill assessment tests on models or in the field are also used for evaluation and grading. Generally, assessments in the mid and at the end end of the semester constitute 40% and 60% of the final grade. The students should get a mark of 65 from a total score of 100. The students should be successful in defending their thesis in front of an academic jury.
Graduation Requirements
In order to complete the program, the students should have two compulsory and three elective courses in the first and five elective courses in the second semester. The students should have completed 30 credits before graduation (Compulsory courses make up 20% of the total credits). Students who complete the courses and are succesful in defending their thesis in front of an acdemic jury get their degree of MPH.

Facilities
Ümraniye Health Directorate is the training and research field of the School of Medicine through a protocol signed between the Ministry of Health and Marmara University. Training and research activities of medical students as well as postgraduate students are carried in this region.
