General Description ^
History
Histology-Embryology programme in Institude of Health Sciences began to education in 1991-1992 academic year. Programme involves Master's education with thesis prior to doctorate programme to develop Histology-Embroyology academician in our country. In addition it is aimed to graduate Embryologist to work in assisted reproductive centers.
Qualification Awarded
Students who successfully finish master programme with thesis gains Master (MSc) degree.
Specific Admission Requirements
To ve approved by Marmara University Graduate Education and Training Guidelines. To have graduated from 4 year Biology or Molecular Biology and Genetic Programme in Science and Literature Faculty.To have at least 60 points(Numerical Field) from ALES. To be succesful at scientific evaluation and interview.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
According to the Higher Education Legislation formal educatin is performed. Students enrolled in the Histology-Embryology programme of other universities' may apply for transfers.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
The programme consists of a minimum of 7 courses of not less than a total of 21 credits, a seminar coursa and thesis work. Graduate study programme consists of compulsory and elective courses. The programme is 60 ECTS credits in total. Student who succesfully completed the courses and succesfully defended their master's thesis in front of jury, and scored at least an average of 2.5 (over 4) are entitled to receive master's diploma.
Profile of The Programme
Histology and embryology programme is aimed for the students to learn general histology and embryology, theoritical and practical steps of histological preparation, have information about light and electron microscopy phisics and morphometry, to prepare a project on histology and embryology, to continue an experiments and tissue preparation and to gain capability of writing articles.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates can work as academician in national and international universities, embyologist position in the centers of assisted reproduction in Turkish Republic Health Ministry Hospitals.
Access to Further Studies
Upon successful completion of a masters degree, graduates may apply to doctorate programme in their field or in multidisiplinary areas provided that they scored enough points at the ALES test and have English language competency, and are accepted if they are succesfull in the interview.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
To successfully complete lectures, to present articles and seminar, preparation and evaluation of histological sections (light and electron micrsoscopic level). To be found succesfull by the academic jury for the master thesis.
Graduation Requirements
Students successfully complete the courses (at least 21 credits) and practises, and successfully defend their masters thesis in front of the jury and the score at least 2,5 (over 4).

Light Microscopy Laboratory, Electron Microscopy Unit, Computers, Library. The equipment and the laboratory for histochemical and immunohistochemical light and electron microscopic studies is found in Histology and Embryology Department.

1 He/she has to be able to perform undergraduate educational activities of Histology and Embryology.
2 He/she has to be able to form, develop and finalize the projects.
3 He/she has to be able to evaluate light and electron microscopic images.
4 He/she has to be able to perform appropriate preparation and staining techniques on tissues.
5 He/she has to be able to use the laboratory equipments efficiently.
6 He/she has to acquire the theoretical and practical information about laboratory safety.
7 He/she has to obey ethical principles during experimental studies.
8 He/she has to be able to perform the techniques for special light microscopy.
9 He/she has to be able to perform appropriate statistical techniques for studies.
10 He/she has to be able to publish studies in national and international journals.
